Bed OK, but really old smelly carpets, very stuffy rooms where no windows can be left open. No Locks on the screen door, and no windows can be left open.Not friendly people at reception either. Pool and spa were Closed, were there for two days.

We stayed in black dolphin motel for 7days when we went to Merimbula during Christmas and new year. It was a really bad experience when we stayed there. The motel's ad is false. After checking in, we found there is no air conditioner in this room and a dead cockroach on the little bathroom floor. Later we found the shower didn't work well, which was suddenly very cold and suddenly very hot. At the begging, we thought perhaps because more people were using the showers at same time to cause this problem. So we tried the different time to take shower. But the shower water was still the same. We had to go to reception to complain it. Next morning one man went to our room to fix it. But after fixing, the shower wasn't changed at all. According on there were some marks on the sheet of bed, we asked the cleaner to change it. However, when we came back the motel in the afternoon, we found the cleaner who was a short, mid-age woman changed a more dirty sheet for us, which had more obvious yellow and dark marks on it. We had to take it to laundry room to wash by ourselve. In fact the towels also had brown or yellow marks on them. One morning, the power for TV and fan were off, my husband had to go to reception to complain again! Although the cleaners cleaned the room every day, they never washed the used cups for customers, just like this motel was a self service motel. We spent about $200 per night to stay here, but even couldn't get a normal shower. Most terrible thing was that when we had some problems to ask help, they not only didn't settle problems for us, but also gave worse service! We once looked forward to having fun in Merimbula, but what happened in this motel damaged our happiness. I even thought whether the people in Merimbula are not so nice just because we met the ones in this motel! I feel so sorry to other nice people we met in clubs, shops, restaurants and other places in Merimbula for what I said. But we still have to say the Black Dolphin Motel in Merimbula was the worst one we once stayed! At least other motels have good showers which are the basic requirements! We will never choose black dolphin motel again because of their bad service, bad hygiene, bad nosing environment, and bad room facilities!
First impression is pretty underwhelming. Room is so run down and outdated. Really musky smell. No cutlery provided. The balcony is unsafe, I dont even want my child walking on it. The bathroom is shocking, and we have a broken toilet bowl. I'd pay 60 a night but not definitely not 119. Even have a stunning view of a brick wall. Have stayed in much nicer places for the price. No air con and very old heater.
I Booked the black dolphin on Expedia and I managed to get unit 21 which is a one bedroom fully self contained unit for 5 nights at only $355. Although this is the off peak season it still is an absolutely amazing place to visit. The beach is only a 250meter walk from the motel.! The laundry service is convenient as we stayed almost a week. With dryer and washing machine with an ironing board if you feel the need to iron on holiday..The unit was well heated and had everything we could have needed for our stay.. Unfortunately the spa had no water in it and that would have been nice to go for a warm dip.. the car park for unit 21 is also located on the other side of woop woop.. this is just inconvenient.. I did find the wifi prices a bit extreme but lucky I did not need it. It is a very nice motel and I think we will definitely be coming back here again..
